On February 16th, Lithuania was celebrating the independence day of Lithuania. All the major cities organized festivities, parades, public speeches and other state-sponsored events. Public shows and free concerts were organized in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, at the cathedral Square in the city center. It was amazing almost the whole Vilnius’s population was there. Lithuania has an interesting history, indeed we have to know that unlike other countries, Lithuania became independent two times in their history. The first time was on February 16th, 1918. They declared themselves from Czarist Russia and they remained a free nation till 1940 when the Soviet Union annexed it. While 50 years Lithuania was under the control of Soviet Union and they became independent for a second time in 1990. Good to know we’ll sleep slightly less stupid tonight.
